According to friends and colleagues who have attended Britdoc in the UK, something special has been created over there, along the lines of True/False here in the States--an intimate gathering in an intimate, lovely place where filmmakers convene, share their art and find community with fellow artists that also are currently developing or making an independent project. It's a great opportunity to seek co-production assistance and financing. And, you can eat and sleep and party Hogwarts-style at Keble College on the Oxford campus. Harry Potter Slept Here!
Britdoc's "Dragon's Den" is officially open where you can get a chance to pitch your project to international funders. The Big Pitch is the UK's only international pitching forum where twelve filmmakers get to pitch their projects to a panel of commissioning editors and film funders from the US, Europe and the Far East. Last year, over two-thirds of the projects received funding as a direct result of attending this pitch session. Also, all projects entered are part of the online pitching forum accessed by all funders before, during and after the fest in July. Click here for application details.
Britdoc is also on the prowl for innovative British doc filmmaking. All feature submissions are due by 9 May and shorts are due by the 16th. Click here for submission info. The festival also has a Facebook page you can join to keep track of the latest and greatest from Oxford--the opening of the Shorts Pitching Forum, the Good Pitching Forum and announcements of master classes, events and special guests.
