Shooting People has just announced that the extraordinary Werner Herzog will be exclusively judging a film competition giving an emerging filmmaker an opportunity to showcase his or her work. In association with UK-based distributor, Revolver Entertainment (which launched in the US in 2007), and The Barbican in London, SP is asking filmmakers to submit short works documenting their encounters with nature. The winning film, selected by Herzog, will exhibit before a screening of Encounters At the End of the World, his incredible piece on life in Antarctica, at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 27th at the Barbican.
Inimitably narrated by Herzog, this adventure story uses techniques that surpass anything else any other nature documentary team has used before, capturing exquisite, breathtaking scenery and previously unseen wildlife. Revolver will be releasing the film on DVD as part of a special edition Natural World five-disc boxed set of Herzog films at summer's end with tons of extra features. Films include Encounters, Grizzly Man, The White Diamond (one of my favorite films of all time), The Flying Doctors of East Africa and La Soufrière. The Barbican will be honoring Herzog in their Directorspective series from September 12th through the 27th.
