Clearly it's been not an insignificant amount of time since my last post here on SIM, my beloved blog of five years. February 11 to be exact. I've strayed, it's true. And although once in a while I have some kind of yearning to write something here. . . well, I just haven't. Mostly it's because I haven't thought I've had too much of interest to say, really.
I am still unequivocably and irrefutably devoted to cinemtatic nonfiction filmmaking and the experimental dark side of producing and making what appears to be a made-up story but is actually true (whatever that means) and / or what appears to be a diehard true story that turns out to be pure fiction. It's the reason I started this damn thing in a hotel room in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina one dark and stormy night (stuck in a thunderstorm at the Hilton). I still like this stuff very much.
So much so, in fact, that I am in the throes of making a film of this nature myself and I'm kinda scared shitless and thought this would be a good place to state that boldly so people know that I'm scared. And the reason I'm scared is because I think this might be one of the most important things I've ever attempted in my life and the margin of error is so wide, it makes the oceans look like streams, the mountains like molehills, the highways like rickety side roads, ad nauseum.
This might be the last blog post you read for another--what was it?--six months. Or I might be embarking on some kind of new hybrid diary / production notes / documentation of the last vestiges of my sanity, kind of thing. Which could be interesting for some. We'll see.
And for those of you who still think I'm living in Berlin, Germany, I'm now a resident of Tirana, Albania. You should come and visit; it's a beautiful place. As you'll note in the photo above, the city has even graced one of its main boulevards with the namesake of one of the most beloved presidents of the United States of Assholery in recent memory. Those kind men are making sure that there is enough electricity for the whole city; they all just forgot to wear their uniforms that day.
Anyway, it's a potentially good place to make a movie. And I promise to hold out doing a kickstarter campaign as long as I possibly can. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
